High Volume Display Ads Strategy: How I Secured 106K Impressions at $0.10 CPC
When running broad awareness campaigns on the Google Display Network, it is remarkably easy to burn through a budget without getting real engagement. For this campaign, my goal was straightforward: secure massive, high-quality visual reach whilst keeping the cost of every single visitor exceptionally low.
By keeping a close eye on device performance, bidding habits, and prime engagement hours, I generated 106K impressions and 2.92K direct clicks on a total ad spend of $293—bringing in an average CPC of just $0.10 alongside a 2.75% Click-Through Rate (CTR).
How the Campaign Performed
I scaled the campaign quickly after launch on 30 May, finding an immediate surge in engagement before settling into a consistent, cost-controlled delivery rhythm through mid-June.

Demographic
Zeroing In on the Right Audience
I refined demographic targeting so the ads reached people genuinely interested in browsing:
Core Demographics: Delivery was heaviest amongst Men aged 25–34 and 35–44, who made up the bulk of interactions.
Secondary Reach: I also maintained a healthy balance across Women aged 25–44 and younger adults (18–24), ensuring we covered key household decision-makers without inflating costs.
Smarter Dayparting: Targeting When People Actually Browse
Rather than running the ads non-stop, I paid close attention to when users were most receptive:
Late-Night & Early Morning Windows: I noticed strong engagement spikes around midnight (12:00 AM – 2:00 AM), particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Evening Relaxation: Traffic remained steady during late afternoons and evenings, allowing me to capture casual browsing sessions after work hours.
Device
Device Split: Finding Hidden Value in Tablets
Managing device delivery was one of the most effective levers in this campaign:
Mobile Phones: Remained our workhorse, bringing in 70.4% of clicks (69.7% of impressions) on an 85.4% cost share.
Tablet Advantage: Tablets proved to be a real hidden gem here, driving 28.8% of clicks (29.3% of impressions) on only 13.9% of the budget. That gave us a massive volume of highly affordable visits.
Computers & TV Screens: I kept desktop and TV screens restricted to under 1% combined, ensuring zero wasted spend on passive screens.
My Main Takeaways from This Campaign
Unlocking Low-Cost Scale: Keeping CPCs at $0.10 on Google Display requires active negative placement management and strict device controls.
Leveraging Tablet Placements: By letting tablets run alongside mobile rather than shutting them off, I picked up nearly 30% of total clicks at a significant discount.
Beating Industry Averages: Achieving a 2.75% CTR on Display proves that pairing clean visuals with responsive dayparting wins attention.
